Lead Carpenter Job Description

Oversee project crews in carpentry work required for the restoration, repair, and alteration of buildings and structures.

  • Assist in the supervision and operation of the shop, project site, and assigned personnel as directed.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contract drawings, and scope of the labor estimates.

  • Assist in the coordination with outside vendors and craftsmen. 

  • Assist in the preparation of estimates, reports and requisitions.

  • Create and coordinate the flow of work orders, maintenance requests, and related forms between shop and project site.

  • Be able to perform all duties of carpenter or finish carpenter, following the recognized procedures and techniques. 

  • Be able to step in as site supervisor when needed.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Participate in workshops, conferences, and seminars to stay up-to-date with developments in the field.

Required Experience

  • 3+ Years experience 

  • Self-motivated and willing to work and learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test

​Required Skills

  • Physically able to lift, carry, move, and hold large pieces of wood and machinery for extended periods of time.

  • Must be familiar with basic hand and power tools.

  • Must have basic math skills and be able to take measurements.

  • Must work efficiently, adhere to deadlines and communicate with supervisors.

  • Must be able to work at heights and lift 100 lbs.

Preferred Job Skills Qualifications

  • Ability to carry out not only simple but complex oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to properly use measuring tools.

  • Ability to read and understand English sufficiently.

  • Ability to operate hand tools including but not limited to drills; grinders; heat guns; rivet guns.

Starting pay will depend on your experience and performance

This is a full time, permanent position. Hours are 7AM-4PM M-F, occasional overtime is expected in order to complete projects by deadline. Some Saturdays required.

Candidates must have transportation to the job sites in New Orleans.
